What if Bullying Situation flash cards
$19.00 + Shipping & Tax

Are designed for individual, one on one, or group use - including brainstorming and discussion with the support of a teacher, peers or parents. Children can explore, discuss and practice their "safe, non-violent bullying stopping plans" with different "what if..." situations and responses. If students do not know what to do when faced with a bullying situation, they may be more likely to surrender their power to a bully by fighting back with words or fists. Some students may react in other inappropriate, negative ways, causing bullying situations to escalate. There are no guarantees. However, if practiced and prepared with a plan and increased social skills, children are more likely to keep their own power and deal with the bully in a more effective manner.

How to use the social skills book at home

  • Establish a need for the skill. Offer (or have children model) a demonstration of a "negative" example of the skill, then a "positive" example of the skill. Encourage discussion and questions about the skill to ensure a better understanding.
  • Encourage children to practice the skill immediately via role-playing, art or writing their own examples to ensure a working from experience understanding.
  • Practice the skill with children frequently and encourage children to employ the skill in everyday life situations.
  • After the skill has been introduced and practiced it becomes easier for children to respond using the skill.
