Helping students improve reading and writing skills: Literacy instruction for teachers
This workshop was designed for K- 12 teachers and administrators. Several models for teaching reading / writing skills are offered. These include "The daily five", in which students learn to work independently on reading and writing skills while the teacher works with individual students; "Six traits", which demonstrates the six main skills needed for effective writing at all ages; "Readers/Writers Workshop", which models how small and whole group instruction can support literacy; and general information about resources, classroom management and assessment that support the work of teachers.

Using multicultural children's and young adult books: Bringing the world to community
Our children are entering an increasingly complex world that requires social ability to work, live and communicate with people who are both the same and different from ourselves. Sharing and talking about stories that offer glimpses of our shared humanity are a powerful way to encourage knowledge and confidence in our interactions with people. These skills are vital to success in society today. This workshop was designed for all members of the community: teachers, administrators, parents, grandparents, children and young adults.

Bringing First People's Stories to print: Collecting, writing, editing and publishing
This exciting session is designed for any community member who has a story to tell, or who wishes to assist others to tell theirs. First People know the importance of their stories for future generations and for all Canadians. This workshop will assist you to begin achieving your writing dreams. You will be working with an accomplished Canadian writer who will assist you through the process to the final product. Artists and illustrators are also welcome.
